Finding Bliss with Scott Hamilton

Who knew that when I first picked up Scott Hamilton’s autobiography, The Great Eight, that I would also be reading an incredibly motivational story about finding bliss?

Scott Hamilton is a gold medal Olympian and a cancer and chemotherapy  survivor. At the crux of his story is a journey to find happiness through natural means and perseverance.

It’s a moving book filled with lessons and insights. Probably one of the greatest gems that I took away from Hamilton is his insistence on making your losses your wins.

He poignantly states throughout the book that it’s not our challenges that define us, but how we respond to them.

Over his own struggle to find bliss, Hamilton urges you, the reader, to look at past challenges as your own success stories that you have overcome and lived through.

He says that many cancer survivors call this the "gift" of cancer, but that doesn’t mean you need to experience cancer to find bliss.

It just means that instead of looking at life’s roadblocks as obstructions, we have to see them as simply detours in the right direction.

Of course, I don’t think Hamilton has all the secrets for finding bliss, but he’s definitely on the right path.
