Ultimately, firm & glowing skin is a myth unless we use safe skin care products. The problem is that most of us are totally unaware of the hazards of our current skincare products. An example: recently I was in a Home Depot store looking for some liquid cement or super glue. On the back of one package was a label that said, "Warning: POISON". The chemical referred to TOLUENE and the directions warned me not to allow any of this stuff to touch my skin. Well, guess what? Toluene appears in many cosmetics and unsuspecting customers are liberally applying it to the delicate skin on their face!
According to the US regulatory agency, the Food & Drug Administration, only eight ingredients are banned from cosmetics in the United States. The European Union has banned more than 1,000.
We just don't know what effects these products have, long-term. But testing would require millions of dollars, and time, which beauty care companies simply don't have in an age that thrives on introducing a new product every few months. Here are three 'truths' about your skin care products:
Sake Skin Care Truth #1: Major manufacturers are selling skin care products that may be effective – but there's no way are they safe! And there's no question that manufacturers know this. Safe skincare products simply aren't a concern with most companies.
Sake Skin Care Truth #2: : Don't assume the word "natural" means “safe”. It might – but don't count on it.
Sake Skin Care Truth #3: : Even folks who SAY they're concerned about safety either don't know what they're talking about – or don't care.
For instance, here's a recipe I found in a "safe skin care" book:
= = = = = = =
Homemade Vitamin C Serum
• 1/4 teaspoon of Lysorbic Acid (Vit-C) powder or crystals
• 5 ml distilled water
• 5 ml of propylene glycol
= = = = = = =
Sounds OK – unless you know your ingredients. Propylene Glycol is strong enough to remove barnacles from boats! The Environmental Protection Agency {EPA} considers PG so toxic that it requires workers to wear protective gloves, clothing and goggles and to dispose of any PG solutions by burying them in the ground. Because Propylene Glycol penetrates the skin so quickly, the EPA warns against skin contact to prevent consequences such as brain, liver, and kidney abnormalities.
Does that sound like something you want on YOUR face? Without paying attention to safe skincare you just might cause incredible cellular damage.
