The “Dietary Supplement Labeling Act“, like all such laws, sounds so pure and innocent in its description. Introduced by US Senator Dick Durbin, and defeated in 2011, the bill would allow the Federal Drug Administration to regulate vitamins and minerals more stringently than drugs.
Durbin has announced that he plans to re-submit this monstrosity which labels vitamins and supplements as “health menaces”.
Yet, this same bunch is fine with aspartame, a truly deadly poison.
Supporters believe that supplements should ONLY be in the hands of doctors. This means that if you want to take vitamin C (for example), you will have to go to a doctor and get a prescription. This assumes that you are incapable of making your own health decisions. I agree with author Martha Beck:
“You are the ultimate authority on you. No one else can ever claim that authority, and you cannot give it away, even if you want to.”
