There are several popular home remedies for a yeast infection. In truth, however, most of them either do not work at all or work much worse than medicines, even over-the-counter ones. Here are a few home remedies for yeast infection that really work.
Prevention: Stopping The Darned Yeast Infection Before It Gets Started
One of the most important home remedies for yeast infection is preventing yeast from overgrowing in the first place, as it is much easier than later coping with negative effects of this condition. In order to do it, you have to:
1. Work on improving your immunological system – the only barrier that can keep off yeast infections for good.
2. Reduce the amount of yeast growth-inducing foods, such as sugars and yeasts (in beer, for example), in your diet.
3. Cranberry juice is a classic cure for a yeast infection. But NOT the sugary stuff in the grocery (sorry!) "Real" cranberry juice – meaning un-sugared (is there such a word?) and unprocessed isn't for wimps. It's very bitter. Personally, I can't stand the stuff although I certainly like Ocean Spray.
Other preventative measures are to reduce the amount of stress, increase your level of exercise and try to avoid antibiotics whenever possible (don't overdo to the last one, however – pneumonia is certainly more dangerous than candidiasis!), lead a generally healthy lifestyle and follow a low-sugar diet. All these “home remedies” taken together should drastically decrease a chance for a yeast infection.
Remember that when you discover signs of candidiasis, whether oral thrush, vaginal yeast infection or diaper rash, no home remedies for yeast infection will work as quickly as the over-the-counter medicines.
