Atlanta is having a gorgeous spring. The flowers and trees and budding and bursting forth with blooms, the weather is dry and pleasant with highs in the low 70s and 40s at night and … well, the flowers are blooming. That’s really bad news for millions of allergy sufferers. If that’s you, are you suffering, using drugs – or turning to natural remedies for allergies?
Most people do NOT choose natural allergy remedies but over the counter [OTC] meds. Do these work? It depends, but lots of them do the job. The problem is … what in the world are you putting in your body? Toxins, toxins and more toxins. They’re a short-term solution that adds to a long-term problem – the poisons in your body.
Here are some long-time home remedies for allergies.
Home Remedy For Allergies: Some Fruits & Veggie Juices
Lime squeezed into GOOD water – not plain old tap water or water bottled in plastic containers – is famous in the natural remedies for allergies manual. Another fruit that often helps alleviate allergy symptoms is the lowly banana. This is probably true because of its high potassium content. And in addition, vegetable juices, especially fresh-squeezed one from a high quality juicer, relieves the sniffling miseries.
Home Remedy For Allergies: Red Clover
Red clover is often a fabulously effective home remedy for allergies. Red clover is easily available, inexpensive and can be found in many different forms, depending on what you choose to use. There are pills, tablets and capsules – even powdered red clover to add to any food. There are even homeopathic formulations of red clover as well as red clover in aromatherapy formulations. Most herbalists believe that red clover tea is the most potent way to combat allergies. There is even a red clover wine! Sorry, but I have no idea how it tastes since I don’t like wine at all. Yuck.
Home Remedy For Allergies: Vinegar
One natural allergy remedy that is frequently recommend for relief of symptoms is vinegar – real apple cider or herbal vinegar, not the junky stuff that’s been ruined by processing. In fact, real apple cider vinegar is recommended for a variety of ailments as well as an allergy home remedy – high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even weight loss. A couple of Tablespoons per day has a marvelous effect on some allergy sufferers. The problem, of course, is the taste. I hate drinking it, personally! However, mixed with some juice or a bit of honey, it isn’t too bad. Don’t drink it straight, though – always dilute it with something. Unless you’re a masochist, that is.
Home Remedy For Allergies: Acupuncture
The WebMD website reported on a study of 26 patients who suffered the tortures of the damned from allergies (OK, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration. :-) At any rate, each one of these patients was helped by a skilled acupuncturist. This isn’t a home remedy, of course, but it is a natural one and if it works for you, is much better than invading your body with toxic drugs. Many health spas either offer this service or can direct you to a practitioner.
Avoid Two Common Allergy “Triggers”
Many people suffer from allergies caused by two common triggers and the first of these is mold. Mold loves and adores humidity, which is one reason it’s so common in places like your shower stall. By law in most places, a bathroom must have either a ventilation fan or a window, so make use of these. Mold in basements is also quite common and may need a professional to get it completely removed.
Many, even devoted pet owners, are allergic to their pets. I suspect I have a slight allergy to my two cats. Obviously, if that’s true for you, it’s best not to get any such pets in the first place. But if you’re already attached to them, like I am, don’t allow them in your bedroom . You need deep restorative sleep with any allergy triggers. That might not solve the problem, but it will help.
Will any or all of these natural remedies for allergies work for YOU? There’s no way of knowing until you try them out. Just keep in mind that you can always go to the heavy-duty drugs later if you feel like you can’t survive without them. So why not try healthy, natural remedies first?
