Yesterday we posted 8 Fitness Tips For Folks Who Absolutely HATE Exercise! (Part 1) of our articles on exercise motivation and we're happy to complete it here. Health and fitness aren't just related – they're the yin/yang, the indissolvable marriage, the Must Haves for radiant, blissful living. The problem is that many of us DETEST exercise! But take heart because all is not lost. We gave you four valuable tips yesterday and here are four more that just might get up off that couch.
Tip #5: Exercise With A Partner
One of the strongest motivating tactics is to work out with a partner. There will be days when you feel you absolutely cannot drag your poor exhausted body out of the chair! Your partner will likely provide needed motivation to get up and get moving and you can return the favor on days he doesn't want to exercise. Almost always, you will find that once you're out and moving, you will be glad you persevered.
Tip #6: Variety Keeps You Going, Boredom Destroys Your Exercise Motivation
There is another advantage to having a partner and that is that you can encourage variety for each other. Boredom is a training program's worst enemy and experimenting with tennis, jogging, boxing or other new sport just might provide the spark and excitement necessary for the self discipline of fitness.
Tip #7: Words Are Powerful
The words we use to ourselves are often the difference between success and failure. For example, what do you think of when you hear the word "exercise"? Most people think of a duty, something they "must" perform, even when they definitely do not want to! Even the word "duty" can be loaded in a negative way. Substitute words that are agreeable to you. Words like "fun", "play" and "challenge" are more positive so when you're going for a walk, it's not an onerous duty but a fun way to play and challenge yourself to have a good time. Of course, words are personal so make your own personal list and start using them. Over time, this tactic is certain to make a difference.
Tip #8: Classes Can Spice Up The Fitness Journey
Lastly, try taking some classes. Exercise classes are a great way to meet new people, learn new exercises, stay motivated, and above all, have fun. Pilates, yoga and dancing classes can be quite challenging and many enjoy them simply for the activity itself, rather than the results. Most gyms offer low-cost or free classes with a membership or you can check out options at your local community center, county recreation center or high school evening classes.
Staying motivated if you hate exercising can be hard, but you can outsmart your own distaste for exercise. Make it fun and it won’t seem like such a chore. That's the smart road to a great body and drastically improved health.
