If you have ever begun a diet I’ll bet that you started off great at first, following the plan and losing weight every week. But then sooner or later, your weight loss motivation started to fall and you felt as though you couldn’t be bothered to plan your meals or exercise. It is a fact that most dieters start to lose their motivation after the first two or three weeks, when the first flush of enthusiasm dies and they start getting bored. If this is something you have experienced in the past, then there are ways to overcome this problem and get your diet back on track.
1. Reward Yourself
One of the most effective techniques for keeping motivated is to reward yourself when you have hit a weight loss goal. The goal can be anything you like- for example losing five or ten pounds. Once you have reached it, reward your achievement with something worthwhile. It goes without saying that it should be a non-food reward! Choose something like having a lazy day reading your book, take a shopping trip or go and watch a film with your partner. By doing this, you will associate reaching your weight loss goals with a treat, and should feel much more motivated to achieve them.
2. Change Your Routine
Instead of falling into the trap of eating the same meals and doing the same exercise routines, try mixing them up. Study your diet plan and prepare some new recipes from the foods you are allowed or buy fruit and vegetables you have never tried before and get experimenting. Change your exercise routine by trying a different exercise, or adjusting the intensity of your workouts. After a while of doing the same thing your body gets used to it and no longer finds it challenging, so this will help to give your weight loss a boost too. The more varied you can make your diet and workouts the easier it will be to motivate yourself to carry on.
3. Master Your Emotional Eating Habits
Do you find that you overeat when you feel certain emotions, such as sadness, anger, loneliness, frustration or boredom? If so, this kind of emotional eating could be causing you to lose motivation as you may feel as though you are not making any real progress. You will have to be totally honest with yourself and why you make unhealthy eating choices if you want to control your weight long term. If you attend a class, ask your group leader for advice on this.
If you find your weight loss motivation has started to drop, don’t worry. Just try some of these tips and you will fire it back up again and reach your weight loss goals.
