I’ve had a lot of creepy silverfish in my life. They’ve all been in my bathroom and usually in the sink and nothing I’ve done has made any difference. Then my son read that they really like the gunk down in the sink drain. It’s not only a delicious food source to them – GROSS! – they even lay their eggs in there. That lovely tidbit of knowledge lead to a solution of this disgusting problem.
As you surely know, bleach kills all carbon based life forms, including humans if we get enough of it. So I took a bottle of spray cleanser with bleach in it and sprayed it generously into both sinks. I allowed it to sit for about 20 minutes and then ran water down the drain. Bleach and cleansing chemicals are bad for your pipes so it’s unwise to pour bleach down there and just leave it.
I repeated that for a total of three days and now I do a maintenance dose once a week. I put the cleanser in the sink and take a shower. That’s about 20 minutes.
Result: NO SILVERFISH! I haven’t seen a single one since I started this killer experiment. So apparently they did, in fact, want to explore my sink drains and now the word has gone out to Silverfish Land that these drains aren’t hospitable to them and they go somewhere else. I don’t care where they go as long as they stay out of my life.
