My Best Green Tea Recipe

Written by Sydney Johnston 2 Comments

I would like to share my best green tea recipe. Forget bottled green tea and make your own – it's healthier and cheaper. And the one I make is absolutely YUMMY (she said modestly, :-)

Before I give you the ingredients, let's talk about how to brew your high quality green tea. Green tea is delicate and boiling it or abusing it in any way can destroy the luscious ingredients that make it so powerful – and it might taste pretty nasty. So, bring your tea water to a gentle boil and then turn off the stove and remove the water from the heat. Drop in your tea bags and allow them to steep for four minutes exactly. I use a timer and remove the tea immediately.

To make 9 cups of delicious and healthy green tea …

Best Green Tea Ingredients

7 cups of pure water
 7 green tea bags
2 cups of organic fruit juice
stevia for 9 cups of liquid

The fruit juice isn't necessary, but I really like the taste. All of my juice is organic and if there is a sweetener, it isn't sugar. My favorite is a Peach Mango made by Apple & Eve Organics. However, I've experimented with other fruit like organic lemonade, cherry juice or grape juice. If you prefer to use 100% tea, that's perfectly fine.

Stevia is very important to my cooking efforts. Stevia is a natural sweetener that does not raise blood sugar. I've tried liquid stevia and do NOT like it, but the powdered is delicious in food. Follow the directions on your package when figuring the amounts. It takes very little stevia to sweeten your drinks so it is extremely economical.

Yes, I like bottled green tea and often drink it when I'm out, but when I'm home I always drink my best green tea recipe. Of course, "best" is totally subjective and your tastes will be different from mine. If you don't like my recipe, experiment until you find something you really like. Green tea is too healthy to ignore.

It truly is delicious – and “guilt” free. :-)
