We all want teeth that are as tough and solid as possible. But did you know that drinks and foods with sugar aren't only bad for your body but they also degrade your teeth? Today's guest author explains why that's true and offers a yummy recipe that will not only taste good but will actually help your teeth?
Healthy food can improve your entire well-being, and that includes your teeth. Over-processed, sugary food can turn your mouth into a breeding ground for bacteria, which in turn causes tooth decay – which costs a lot of money to repair. What you eat can really affect your dental health!
Natural Food and Your Teeth
The mouth contains thousands of bacteria on a regular basis. Most are the good kind of bacteria, but not all of them. If you eat sugary food without brushing your teeth shortly afterward, the sugars sit on your teeth and interact with the bacteria, creating an acidic reaction that eats away at the tooth enamel. Eventually your teeth will begin to decay. These types of food are not healthy for your body to begin with, but with this added issue, you may want to consider incorporating more healthy whole foods into your diet. There is no replacement for regularly visiting a dentist, but there are several foods that actually help your teeth grow stronger and more resilient.
Strawberry Orange Smoothie
This homemade strawberry orange smoothie not only tastes delicious, it’s also beneficial for your teeth and costs very little to make. Strawberries and oranges contain natural teeth whiteners along with plenty of vitamins and minerals to make your teeth healthy. These fruits also help prevent plaque buildup. Milk, of course, contains calcium, which strengthens teeth enamel.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 orange, peeled and sectioned – place the sections in the freezer ahead of time until frozen.
1/2 cup milk
1 Tbs organic local honey
4-7 strawberries
One handful of ice cubes
Here’s how to make it:
Pour the milk into the chamber and add the ice. Blend until the ice is in smaller pieces. This first step is the trick to having a lump-free smoothie.
Add the frozen orange sections, honey and strawberries. Blend until smooth.
This recipe makes enough for 2-3 people. Otherwise, you can freeze the leftovers in an ice tray and re-blend the smoothie cubes later. Drink this delicious smoothie and strengthen your teeth in the process!
