Snow in Atlanta that disrupts the entire city isn’t common. But today, January 17, 2018, is an exception. Right now it’s 12 degrees and the snow is beautiful because no one has started driving yet.
And for your folks up north who might be inclined to sneer at our southern snow – don’t. I spent many years in snow country like New York and Ottawa, Canada and I can tell you that it’s all about what you’re used to. Here in metro Atlanta we didn’t used to be prepared for this kind of weather – after all, who needs snow plows in southern USA? But snow has gotten more common here and the cities and counties have wisely contracted with private companies to salt the road when bad weather hits, thus making it much easier to deal with. In the meantime, the kids are enjoying a day off and many snowmen will certainly appear today.
