If you want to look younger what is the best way to do it? According to Stephen Cherniske, forget the “antiaging product” and transform your body and life. According to Cherniske, our bodies constantly dance between two forces: anabolic metabolism and catabolic metabolism.
<Anabolic means repair, renew, rebuild. Catabolic means disintegration, degeneration. Cherniske says simple that the day catabolism is stronger than anabolism is the day we begin to die.
Let’s be clear, here: he’s NOT talking about swallowing handfuls of dangerous anabolic steroids and supplements. It’s about renewing our bodies at any age, so that anabolic forces are stronger than the catabolic forces.
What I like about his approach is that it’s a whole body approach rather than one of symptom stomping. You know … I have this pain, take this supplement; my blood pressure is too high so take a different one.
#1 Antiaging Product: Muscle!
Cherniski says that the way to healthy, permanent weight loss is to build muscle. You will not only look younger but you will be lean and strong. In case anybody thinks they can’t do it because they’re ‘too old’, take a look at Marjorie Newlin.

Still think you’re ‘too old’ to get in shape? Nonsense! The pictures of Marjorie above show how silly that notion is. According to the stories, when Marjorie was 72 she bought some 50 pound bags of kitty litter on sale – but then could barely get them into her home. She decided her cruddy physical condition was no longer acceptable, especially since she was independent and wanted to stay that way.
So she began a rigorous training program and the result was an entire room of competition trophies. She bench pressed 65 pounds when she was 73 and 85 pounds when she was 74. Then she decided to enter some body building contests. She competed against women half her age – and won.
The bodybuilding competitions are broken into two divisions. Newlin’s first competition was in the Amateur Athletic Union, which is open to the public. Newlin recalls being a little reluctant when she saw the string bikini she’d have to wear in front of the bodybuilding audience. “I knew the contest meant a lot to my trainer so I went along with it,” she says. To everyone’s surprise, Newlin won. The crowd went crazy on hearing she was 74 years old.
She’s passed on now, but was training and competing until her death at 87.
Still think you can’t do it? I KNOW I can. I am totally committed to Stephen Cherniske’s program and will keep this blog updated on my progress. I’m not going to just look younger – I’m going to be younger.

What an inspiration! Marjorie is incredible and apparently she started her weight training at age 72. She proves that as long as we’re alive it’s never, ever too late.
