Collagen Injections As Cosmetic Surgery

Written by Sydney Johnston 4 Comments

collagen-injectionThere are many different ways to help defy the effects of aging. From creams and solutions to more invasive options like surgery, it is important that you are aware of the possible side effects and results of each option. When you have found that creams and special solutions are not cutting it, but you are not yet ready to take the leap into surgery, you may be a perfect candidate for collagen injections – although we have to add that we don't approve of them! There are much better ways to preserve your skin – like using natural skin care products that you make yourself. But, if you're determined to use this stuff, here are the basics.

Cosmetic injections vary widely depending on your desired result. From skin tightening and wrinkle reducers to fillers, collagen injections are just one of the many options. Collagen injections are the perfect solution when you are looking for a minimally invasive surgery with a relatively short recovery time.

Most collagen injections do not require anesthesia. Generally, all that is needed is a numbing agent that will numb only the area receiving an injection. Because an injection is provided through a needle, stitches or similar closures, if any are minimal. This greatly reduces recovery time as there is generally very little bruising and or swelling.

Collagen injections can be applied to alter the appearance of wrinkles and laugh lines as well as lips. An injection is meant to plump up the areas that become more visible with age. Although there are many factors that will cause your skin to age, exposure to the sun being the leader, the underlying cause is the existing collagen becoming damaged and breaking down. As we grow older, the collagen looses elasticity and loses the ability to keep our skin taut and full.

Although collagen injections do not last as long as some of their more permanent surgical counterparts, it will provide the boost you need to feel a bit better about your appearance. These injections last on average about six months, but the cost is much less than conventional surgery and you are able to get back to every day activity much more quickly. Collagen injections are done in a short time, usually right in the doctor’s office. It is so quick that some people may even use their lunch break from work to get this procedure done.

Beware because like any surgery, bargain shopping may not always be the best. You will want to make sure you find a reputable center to perform your procedure. Although it is illegal, there are many facilities that are not properly licensed to perform these procedures. Make sure you receive references and ask to see all of their certificates. If there is a time to research whether or not a business is legitimate, this is the time. Although this is a relatively safe procedure, there is still the possibility of serious side effects. You will want to be sure that the location you have selected is equipped and competent enough to take care of you if a problem does occur.

Before committing to any type of cosmetic surgery such as collagen injections, make sure you understand the risk involved. Be certain that the desired outcome is worth the potential risk you are taking.
