Ladies can have the best makeup products available in the market but their application techniques are questionable. Below are ten makeup mistakes that they make every day.
1. Using a Terrible Skin Care Regimen
Makeup was essentially built to hide skin flaws but it should not be used as a substitute for a skin care regimen. You can employ the best makeup artist and instruct them to use only the best makeup in the world but at the end of the day, it will not make up for years of neglected sagging skin.
One of the basic things that you should use in a basic skin care regimen is the application of a good moisturizer. Using a good skin moisturizer everyday helps to slow down the formation of wrinkles, fine lines and keeps the skin looking its very best.
Always use sun screen to ensure that the skin is protected from the harmful sun rays. The best makeup products, however, usually have SPF protection built into their formulas.
Not getting adequate sleep can eventually lead to unsightly eye bags and other skin problems. You should also ensure that you drink plenty of water to prevent your skin from drying up. Bad habits such as smoking can wreak havoc on your skin.
2. Improperly Plucking Your Eyebrows
It is very easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment and start plucking one stray hair after the other, until the eyebrows are reduced to only two thin lines. Another mistake that some women make is plucking all the eyebrows out and drawing them on using an eye pencil. Both these two scenarios hardly ever lead to a flattering look and very little can be done other than wait for the eyebrows to grow back. The best approach to plucking eyebrows is to go for professional eyebrow waxing and pick up a few tips.
3. Using Too Much Bronzer
Unless you are going for a Halloween party, too much bronzer can make your skin have an orange appearance. Bronzer is meant to make the skin appear as if it has a healthy glow and improper application makes it obvious that bronzer has been used.
Pressed powder bronzers which are a few shades darker than your skin are easy to work with, as they tend to be sheer and buildable. It should generally be used to frame your face: sweep some along your hairline, under the jaw line and blend it into your neck and a little under the cheek bones. You can finish off with a feather light touch on top of your chin and brows, along the bridge of the nose and on top of your cheeks.
4. Making Lip Makeup Errors
Greasy lips should never be part of your daily makeup routine. Lip glosses that leave your lips feeling greasy, oily and disgusting should be avoided at all costs. Do not apply a thick layer of lighter formula because honestly, no one wants to see you peel hair from your lips.
Lip liner should be applied to keep your lipstick from bleeding, to add definition to your lips and to outline them. However, you should not apply too much of it; it should be subtle and almost invisible. Sometimes women tend to make their lips appear a bit “plumper” by using a lip liner to draw outside the natural lip line. While this was a cool fad in the 90s, it no longer is.
Not only is dark lipstick difficult to apply but it makes you look older. Dark matte lipstick is unnatural and is considered as the worst option. If you have to wear dark lipstick then use a sheer lipstick or gloss to make it look as natural as possible. Keep in mind that your lip liner should never be darker than your lip color.
5. Using Make-up That Is Not Age Appropriate.
There are certain types of makeup that are geared towards specific age groups. Shimmers and glitters should not be used by older women. Similarly, teenage girls should avoid wearing too much makeup as it can make them look much older. It may be tempting to try different makeup trends but ensure that it is age appropriate.
6. Bottom Lash Eyeliner
Applying centimeter thick black eyeliner under the eyes does not look very flattering unless you are going for the Gothic look. Such thick eyeliner only makes the eyes appear smaller and drags the rest of the face down. You can create a much softer look by applying eyeliner on top of the lashes and complementing it with powder eye shadow along the lower lash line.
7. Sleeping In Make-Up
Not only is this an unhygienic and disgusting behavior, but it will end up ruining your skin. It is common for women to have many excuses as to why they can’t remove their makeup at the end of the day. “I’m tired,” “I’m busy'” etc. are some of these common excuses. If you rarely or never wash your face to remove makeup after a long day, then you shouldn’t wonder any more why you keep having acne break outs.
8. Wearing Your Concealer Without Foundation
Foundation is meant to even out your skin tone while concealer is meant to make your skin look flawless. When you wear concealer without foundation, your flaws can still be seen by other people. It looks more like a patch applied on top of another patch and this really is not the intended look. Moreover, blending in concealer on bare skin is time consuming and could be hastened by just applying foundation first.
9. Wearing The Wrong Color of Foundation
If you love tanning, then your skin color probably changes throughout the year. The color of foundation you used in January wouldn’t be suitable for your skin anymore in December so you have to keep on buying several different colors of skin foundation. Too much tanning, however, is not recommended and only serves to give your skin a strange, leather like appearance.
10. Applying Blue Eye-Shadow
If you are going for a disco, you are a ballerina or a stage actor, then you are allowed to apply blue eye shadow. Otherwise, blue eye shadow does nothing to enhance the natural beauty of your eyes and instead just draws too much attention to them.
