The Anti Aging Antioxidant: Antioxidants & Free Radicals Are Natural Enemies

Written by Sydney Johnston 1 Comment

There are harmful free radicals in our environment that do terrible damage to our skin, but we can protect ourselves with anti aging antioxidant skin products. Our body cells are instantly damaged when brought into contact with overly reactive molecules known as free radicals. Of course, we have some free radicals in our body naturally, but air pollution, radiation, and harmful chemicals found in food can all give us more free radicals than our bodies are equipped to handle – without powerful antioxidants, that is.

Oxidized body cells are the unhappy result of these harmful free radicals. Think about the flesh of an apple after you have sliced it down the middle. The apple turns brown and dries out. Once inside our bodies, free radicals are active in many health dilemmas; they act as carcinogens, and cause signs of aging. Like the apple, free radicals will dehydrate and wrinkle your skin.

Since antioxidants can help you avoid, or even erase the oxidization caused by free radicals, the importance of antioxidants in maintaining youthful looking skin is apparent. Free radicals are neutralized once antioxidants find them. Like free radicals, some antioxidants are present in our bodies, but some like vitamins C and E must come from our diet. You can also include vitamin A, Selenium, Zinc, and Beta Carotene in your diet.

The Antioxidant Diet

Eating your vegetables – the best antioxidant diet source in existence – not only pleases your mother, but it protects you from disease and premature aging by provided you with most of the antioxidants your body needs. Eating antioxidant rich foods will help the appearance of your skin, but you need more. Your skin is constantly being attacked from the outside as well; pollutants, UV light, and atmospheric toxins are all great reasons to use antioxidant skin products and eat foods with antioxidants so that we are nourished from the inside out.

Rosehip Benefits

You will often find rosehip oil as an ingredient in antioxidant skin care products. Rosehip oil benefits are credited with being able to improve wrinkles, stretch marks, sun damage, and to prevent premature aging. The reason rosehip oil is so useful is that it is high in vitamin A, which boosts the body’s regenerative capabilities, and increases collagen and elatin production.

Grapeseed Benefits

Grapeseed oil also contains antioxidants that are able to treat injured skin and help skin cells keep a better level of hydration. Grape seed oil creams and products are especially used for areas around the eyes that can be sensitive. Pure grape seed oil is an excellent moisturizer to use during pregnancy because it helps avert getting stretch marks.

Shea Butter Health & Beauty

The Omega-6 and 9 Essential Fatty Acids found in shea butter, make it an excellent skin protectant as well as a moisturizer. Shea butter contains many antioxidants and other healthy elements, including a type of vitamin A, retinol, that lessens the visibility of fine wrinkles.

Super Antioxidants From Vitamin E & Soybeans

The vitamin E that is in soy beans is another antioxidant commonly used in organic skin products. Soy bean vitamin E is supposedly better than man-made forms, and this natural vitamin E is found in a large amount of antioxidant skin products.

There is no doubt at all that free radicals and antioxidants play a huge part in the speed of aging. So choose an antioxidant diet and use some – or all – of the super antioxidants mentioned above. Of course, if you want to be sick and ugly, forget about them. :-)
