The Slim Fast program is a very famous diet that has been on the American scene for many years and most women have most likely seen the Slim Fast shakes and the Slim Fast bars in their local grocery.
The original Slim Fast meal plan was two shakes per day – one for breakfast and one for dinner – and then a “sensible” dinner. (Does ‘sensible’ mean four slices of pizza with cheesecake for dessert? :-)
The result of this regime was an extremely low calorie diet which usually resulted in weight loss – but most participants were hungry enough to start chewing on the walls.
In addition, the boredom factor was high, high, high. Drinking the Slim Fast drinks so constantly can get tedious. That might seem to cut down on eating since we’re not so eager to eat boring food. And that might be true for those of us with iron will power who could stick to this tedious menu. But most people eventually gave up and you know the rest of the story.
And by the way – if you think there is an resemblance to a delicious shake in this canned drink, let me assure you that there is none.
And, you most likely know that the company added slim fast snack bars several years ago which can add some variety. The experience of chewing is satisfying to most of us and this choice might be wiser in terms of satisfaction.
However, Slim Fast diet has recently been revised to include six meals per day, rather than only three. This is in line with the current theory that eating more often keeps our metabolism revved up and thus causes us to lose weight faster. Perhaps it does but it also keeps our digestion working non-stop and gives it little time to detox and cleanse.

What We Don’t Like About The Slim Fast Diet Plan
#1: COST
The cost of the Slim Fast bars, shakes and other Slim Fast products is pretty high. I use my own whey protein drinks with almond milk and it’s a lot cheaper than their ready-mades … even if you have a Slim Fast coupon or two.
#2: HEALTH
The canned and packaged products aren’t as healthy as the ones you can make at home. When I make my own shakes (my favorite is chocolate cherry) I used freshly squeezed almond milk – most of the time – and organic cherries. The Life Force is still in my drinks and my whey protein is organic. Nothing in a can has any Life Force left in it. It can’t! To can a product means using very high heat which kills all the goodness.

For reasons stated above, we think there are much better diets available for anyone interested in losing weight. We have reviewed many of them and this one isn’t as healthy as some of the others. And bottom line: if you don’t change your lifestyle and habits, any weight you lose will come back … and probably more. Can you REALLY stay on a canned drink and bar diet for the rest of your life?
