We have a book named 517 Inexpensive Spa and Beauty Gifts To Make and it has … surprise … 517 recipes for all kinds of luxurious, sensual and self-pampering gifts. The good part is that they’re much cheaper than anything you buy in a store and they’re simple.
My daughter recently took these two recipes to a class and they made them last night and loved them so I’d like to share them with our readers.
Chocolate Soap
* 12 ounces of grated soap
* 5 ounce water
* 1/4 cup instant cocoa powder
* 1/8 ounce chocolate fragrance oil – they used chocolate essential oil
+ Combine the grated soap and water in a saucepan, and heat slowly.
+ When the soap has melted, add the cocoa powder, and chocolate fragrance.
+ Stir well, then pack into molds and let sit until hardened.
Chocolate Cookie Soap
* 1 pound opaque soap
* 1 Tablespoon cocoa butter cocoa powder for colorant (or brown dye)
* 1 Tablespoon chocolate fragrance oil
* Round molds or cookie molds
+ Melt the soap.
+ Remove from heat and slowly stir in the cocoa butter and enough cocoa powder to make it a pale brown or tan.
+ Add fragrance oil.
+ Reserve enough of the soap to make a darker brown color.
+ Pour the lighter shade of brown soap into round/cookie molds.
+ Add more cocoa powder to the reserved batch of soap base to make a darker brown.
+ Marble onto the pale brown soap.
My daughter is bringing samples of both this weekend and i’m eager to get them. And I do have a tip for novice soap makers: those little soap molds are cute and all but I DON’T LIKE THEM! Trying to wash your hands or take a shower with an itty bitty soap is very annoying. Just food for thought.
And, no, you shouldn’t eat the chocolate soap. :-)
