DIY Cough Syrup Recipe Southern Style

Written by Sydney Johnston Leave a Comment

If you want to make your own cough syrup that is actually tasty – yet works – consider “Paw Paw Garrett’s Homemade Cough Syrup”. It’s simple, too, not to mention inexpensive.

Ingredients

🌟Peppermint candy
🌟Honey
🌟Lemon slices
🌟Bourbon

Directions

Grab a small mason jar or canning jar and add:

💛Some broken up peppermint pieces – broken peppermint canes work well
💛1 teaspoon of honey
💛Squeeze 1-2 lemon slices over the candy and honey
💛Pour bourbon until the jar is filled – Wild Turkey bourbon is recommended but I can’t image what difference the brand makes

Store your delectable jar until all the candy is fully dissolved and take a spoonful as needed. It takes good, soothes your throat and will work on that cough, healing you much more quickly than would otherwise happen. Of course you need to make this ahead of when you actually need it since it needs to sit a spell (as we say in the south). But who says you need that crappy stuff from a store when you can whip up your own DIY cough syrup?
