When you decide to start taking a health supplement, visiting the vitamin and supplement aisle in stores can be intimidating as there are hundreds of options to choose from. Trying to figure out which vitamins you should be taking and which ones aren't right for you takes research and some professional medical advice based on your patient history. But in the meantime, there are general vitamins you can take daily to improve your overall health and make up for some nutritional deficiencies in your diet.
Multivitamin
Taking a general multivitamin can serve as a great health enhancer for your everyday life. A multivitamin is great for adults of any age and gender and usually includes a share of all of the vitamins you need in one, like vitamin C, vitamin B, iron, calcium, potassium, some of the vitamin B complex, vitamin E and more. While this is a good comprehensive vitamin to take, it doesn't contain as much of every vitamin as other supplements that focus solely on that vitamin do. For example, a multivitamin might contain 200 milligrams of vitamin C, whereas a vitamin C supplement on its own might have five times as much. Make sure to take the correct serving size to get the full benefit.
B Complex
Taking a supplement to help get all of the Vitamin Bs, or as close as you can get to all 11 of them, in your everyday diet is extremely important. The vitamin B complex is one of the most neglected nutrients that can help ease stress, lower the chances of cancer and reduce the chances of heart disease. The B vitamins can also help with our memory. Vitamin B also serve as a coenzymes essential so enzymes can produce carbohydrates and protiens. Folic Acid is one of the most important B vitamins, along with vitamins B6 and B12. Meat, fish and green, leafy vegetables can help provide you with the B vitamins you need.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is one of the more popular vitamins that helps support a healthy immune system and fight off common viruses, like a cold. While this vitamin is found in many fruits and natural fruit juices, it's still easy to develop a vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin C and the antioxidants found in berries can help your body fight free radicals and support healthy connective tissue. Vitamin C is often found in a chewable or gummy pill form, making it easy to start a habit of taking it daily for a stronger immune system.
There are plenty of vitamins we should be taking to improve our overall health and plenty of vitamins we don't get enough of on a daily basis. If your everyday diet isn't giving you enough of the nutrients you need, consider taking some of these vitamins to help strengthen your body and make up for what is lost.
