What You Get With The Diabetic Living Diet
Your first task is fill out an online profile that will allow the Diabetics Living health professionals to assess your diabetes risk.
You will then receive a diet that is supposedly customized just for you that will enable you to lose weight. For instance, losing just 10% of your body weight will drastically reduce diabetes risk. Theoretically, at least, this makes the Diabetic Living Diet a pre-diabetes diet because adhering to it just might reduce your chances of getting this horrid disease in the first place.
Your diabetes diet nutrition plan will include information about portion sizes, a shopping list and meal plan. There are over 500 diabetes diet recipes that have been tested by Better Homes & Gardens.
There is online support for those who need help in the form of questions or need for support in staying on the diet.
There are frequent updates from the website which teach you how to eat both at home and in restaurants.
Diabetes Diet Exercise
This is a real weakness of the plan! Diabetes diet information should include specific exercise recommendations because the greater the circulation of the blood through the body, the easier it is to manage insulin production and prevent the complications that every diabetic dreads. The Diabetic Living Diet recommends that followers maintain their ‘usual’ fitness activities but provides no guidance beyond that. We may not always like it but we know in our hearts that diet and exercise DO go together.
Is This The Best Diet For Diabetics?
Diabetes is on the rise in our culture and the primary culprit is the river of sugar that we swim in. If you’ve ever become attentive to labels in the grocery you will know that sugar is omnipresent in zillions of products where it seems totally inappropriate!!!
Excessive sugar creates complications in the pancreas that regulates blood sugar and our food is definitely a way to control the amount of sugar that enters our bodies. Most diets, though, aim to eliminate sugar in all forms and so it’s questionable that every diet wouldn’t accomplish much the same goal.
I seriously doubt there is a “diabetes diet food” per se. A salad with lettuce, tomato and all-virgin, organic olive oil, for instance, would be a perfect diabetes diet food and would be highly recommended by almost all diets except the McDougall diet.
Almost all diets have a CYA recommendation to ‘check with your doctor’. Usually, my reaction is to think, “The hell I will!” However, if you already have diabetes this is a good suggestion, obviously.
Diabetes is not a disease to be ignored and this is supposedly one of the better diabetic diets. Diabetics need to reduce their weight and do it in a safe way. I cannot personally validate this diet since I don’t have diabetes (at least, I HOPE I don’t) but it has a good reputation. Just don’t neglect to consider other diets that aren’t specifically created for diet controlled diabetes if they happen to suit your needs better.
