In modern day society, rock hard abs are highly prized, and if you want to know how to get 6 pack abs, David Zinczenko will tell you how. Zinczenko is the author of The Abs Diet and The Abs Diet For Women, as well as the popular Eat This Not That series of books. His abs diet is supposed to dramatically improve anyone’s abs in only six weeks and could easily be called the ‘6 Pack Abs Diet’. The author is the editor-in-chief of Men’s Health Magazine and definitely is definitely qualified to write an abs diet book based on his own personal appearance!
Chowing Down On An Abs Diet Meal
Surprisingly Abs Diet meals are quite tasty – to me at least. The diet centers around a seven day meal plan that includes twelve power foods that spells out Abs-Diet-Power, an acronym that helps us remember what to eat:
* Almonds and other nuts
* Beans and other legumes
* Spinach and other green veggies
* Dairy that is fat-free or at least low fat
* Instant Oatmeal
* Turkey and other lean meat
* Peanut butter (all natural – limit to 3 Tablespoons per day)
* Olive Oil (Extra Virgin)
* Whole grain bread and/or cereal
* Extra (whey) protein powder
* Raspberries and other berries
As you can see, Abs Diet food isn’t some funky manufactured garbage that tastes like cardboard and has to be forced down by sheer willpower. In fact, the Abs Diet plan is quite comfortable and there isn’t a whole lot of sacrifice – always a big plus. The easier it is to follow a plan, the more likely we are to stick with it, naturally.
When, and how often, you eat is as important as the Abs Diet foods, themselves, and Zinczenko suggests eating five to six small meals every day because in this way we will keep our metabolism in high gear, burning fat all day. For instance, you might fix a sandwich made of whole grain bread and natural peanut butter – but only eat half at a time. This diet is filled with protein, loaded with fiber from whole grains and all the fat is unsaturated and comes from healthy fats like flaxseed and olive oil, as well as nuts. In other words, the Abs Diet plan is very healthy.
If you’re uncertain about how to put together an Abs Diet meal, David’s book offers much help and guidance, along with recipes and suggested diet plans. And …
A Nice Bonus: once a week you get a ‘cheat meal’ to enjoy favorite foods that you might be yearning for and missing terribly. This cheat meal calls for moderation darn it – two gallons of Haagen Dazs not allowed, darn it!
An Abs Diet Workout
It would be a gigantic lie to pretend that food alone will bring you the prized 6 pack abs and the Abs Diet plan includes exercises as well because let’s face it: rock-hard abs can’t be bought in WalMart. They require dedication, determination and hard work – ask any body builder.
A common mistake: many believe that by simply losing weight, gorgeous abs will simply appear. Wrongo!
Others think that exercise alone will result in strong abs, but that’s not true because we simply build muscle underneath the fat and our stomachs will protrude more than ever.
Naturally, Abs Diet exercise involves working the abs muscles. The quickest results involve circuit training exercise which combines strength training with aerobic activities like walking, biking, running and jumping rope. This aerobic activity is alternated with repetitions of strength exercise with 20 seconds of rest between activity cycles. In this way, your heart rate is elevated and you’re working your lungs, heart – and abs, naturally – while you build muscle. And muscle, of course, requires many more calories for sustenance than fat does, thereby accelerating fat loss.
Abs Diet Review: What We Like About The Abs Diet Book
The Abs Diet plan is healthy. It doesn’t rely on junk, but insists upon whole foods that aren’t highly refined and tampered with, so your body will get the nourishment it needs. Damaging our health to lose weight is really bummer if an idea!
The Abs Diet plan has an extensive list of ‘legal’ (pardon! my Weight Watchers training is showing! :-) foods which makes it easier to follow than many strict diets.
Because of the multi-meals notion, it’s tough to get hungry.
I am a vegetarian (mostly vegan) and I can follow this diet easily. No meat required.
If you are one of those folks who needs or craves a specific plan to follow, this will fit the bill. I personally don’t like too much structure but many ask "What do I eat?" and feel lost without fairly substantial guidance.
The book calls this a "six-week plan", even though their menus are set up for a week at a time, but you can continue the 6 pack Abs Diet as long as you want. Some of our diet reviews involve plans that might be successful for weight loss in the short run, but aren’t truly safe for long term use. Not so with the Abs Diet plan.
The Abs Diet book focuses on exercise, as well as simply the food we eat. Therefore it is a more balanced plan than many.
Abs Diet Review: What We Don’t Like About The Abs Diet Book
The Abs Diet book was first written for men, and in our opinion, the Abs Diet For Women was an afterthought. This presents two problems:
Men are much more likely to gain weight in their stomachs first, and are thus more likely to lose weight first in their abdomens. Often, we see men who have a slim, even skinny, bottom half – but a "beer belly". We women, though, usually gain weight in the hips and thighs. So, the Abs Diet meals and exercise program may not flatten our abdomens as quickly as a man’s.
I think the calorie count is pretty high for most women who are attempting to lose weight. Example: three Tablespoons of peanut butter, used in a sandwich with two slices of bread, is 500 calories, just for one meal. I know that I can’t lose weight eating that much peanut butter.
The Six Pack Abs Diet Verdict: A For Men, B/C For Women
Eliminating the layer of adipose tissue – alias fat – that stubbornly clings to our abs isn’t the easiest job in the world, but it is possible. Just keep in mind that we need to pay attention to both exercise and diet, and we need a program that will efficiently boost our metabolisms and burn fat and the Abs Diet workout and eating plan just might do that for you. If you stick to this plan, it’s possible, although not certain, that you will create a toned, sexy body.
