The Bob Greene Best Life Diet

Written by Sydney Johnston Leave a Comment

The Bob Greene Best Life Diet became incredibly famous because Bob was trainer to The Star: Oprah. Anyone interested in Oprah's constant yo-yo ieting sage knows of her admiration for Bob Greene and his weight loss
advice.

Fortunately, the Bob Greene diet isn't a crazy, starve-yourself-and-take-it-all-off-in-10 minutes eating and exercise plan. We heave a relieved sigh over his sanity because, with Oprah's popularity, people would be eating spiders and running 30 miles a day if Oprah told them to. OK, we're exaggerating a bit, but she is still extremely influential and millions have listened to her advice – especially with her perennial ups and downs the weight scale.

Principles Of The Bob Greene Diet Plan

Some of the words we overweight folks DO NOT WANT TO HEAR are: taking the weight off quickly just ain't gonna get it. We know that – we just don't like it. Zig Zigler talks about Stinkin' Thinkin' and the stinkin' thinkin' of overweight people is that we want to diet for one morning (or less! :-), have all the ugly pounds fall off – and get back to our daily lives of eating exactly what we please. And sometimes we are angry with, and blame, people who tell us the truth which is that we need a lifestyle change, not a temporary fix.

And Bob Greene isn't about fixes. He talks about long term and disdains fads. He aims for us to change our attitudes about food and exercise. This is, of course, the only path to permanent weight gain. Otherwise we get stuck on the yo-yo treadmill forever. Yuck.

Bob Green's Best Life Diet helps its followers to recognize the choices that make you fat – and to avoid those foods on a permanent basis.

How To Follow The Best Life Bob Greene Diet

Phase One: the Bob Greene diet has three phases (nothing unusual about that.) Phase One is unusual because generally the first phase is the strictest and hardest – but not so with this one.

Phase one is a maximum of four weeks.

The entire point is to get you to give up your unheathy foods by swapping them for healthier choices.

The idea is to find nourishing foods that you like … finding your groove, so to speak. (Shall I break into a song about 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back'? :-)

Eat three meals and one snack every day.

No eating at least two hours before going to bed.

Yes, there is an exercise component to the Bob Greene diet.

He also recommends certain vitamins and supplements.

Phase Two: this time, as we warned earlier, is stricter than the initial four weeks. But don't be disheartened because it's only supposed to last for four weeks as well.

Here we face our food issues … such as why we overeat or why we eat when we're not the least bit hungry. This is where many so-called successful diets fall down because obviously there are emotional elements for all overweight people (at least for those who don't have other health issues that pack on the pounds)..

Greene recommends weighing only once a week. If the weight isn't coming off, it's time to adjust our portions.

He doesn't recommend more than one-two pounds of weight loss each week.

Many foods are eliminated:

   Soft drinks and colas
   Fried food
   Processed snacks
Anything that raises our choesterol and increases health risks

Instead, we eat healthy foods like:

   Fruits & veggies
   Whole grains
   Lean meat and fish
   Low fat dairy

Charmingly, a bit cheating is built into the diet, which allows an
occasional piece of pizza or a cookie.

Phase Three: is of course, focused on maintenance.

Greene recommends that those who follow his program keep a Best Life Diet daily journal. This is very sensible because it's only by paying attention to what we're eating – and why – that we can get a handle on our excessive eating, if that's what we're doing. And if we're not eating too much, but still are very overweight, we need to know that too. Actually, most of us who are either overweight now, or have been in the past, go 'unconscious' when it comes to eating. We'll never permanently solve our weight problems if we don't figure out what's going on in our lives.

Having just made a case for a journal, though, I must admit that I find it difficult to stick with it. There is a lot of resistance in any effort to trim down, that's for sure.

The Best Life Diet can be conducted with Bob’s book or online at a paid membership site. The book provides detailed menu planning, recipes and tips to deal with the transition to a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Our Verdict On The Best Life Bob Greene Diet = A+

The Bob Greene Best Life Diet is a winner. It's sane and sensible when it comes to food and it's not a fad at all. It's a way to live a healthy and lean life. Good for you, Bob.
