Visualization Techniques: Hypnosis & Weight Loss

Written by Jessica Taylor 11 Comments

At one time, the notion that we could lose weight through our minds seemed exceedingly odd. However, today no one is surprised by this idea. But what kinds of visualization techniques are effective for losing weight? Clearly the answer depends upon each individual person since we all come from different experiences and different backgrounds. This makes weight loss by hypnosis a bit more difficult but certainly not impossible.

Hypnosis and weight loss begin with our visualization of what we want our body to look like. The idea is to keep this vision of your perfect body constantly in your mind and subconsciously you will begin to act in a way that will bring about the desired condition. This isn’t magic. It’s simply a way of "changing our minds".

When you become more accepting of your body, and less critical, your actions will change as well. Without struggling we will began to act in ways that will bring about the desired weight loss. The point here is "without struggle". As long as we try to lose weight with iron discipline and gritted teeth we are almost certain to fail.

No one knows exactly how hypnosis works but it does make clear the fact that the mind and body are inseparably linked. It is an undeniable fact that the body affects the mind and the mind affects the body. If we truly want a change to occur, and we continually picture that change in our mind, the chances of it occurring are high. of course, this change must be physically possible. I’m not suddenly going to get 4 inches taller just because I think about it.

Many of us are convinced that we simply cannot lose weight. We may say it out loud, we may think it, we may say it to others, and we may hear others saying it about themselves [or even us!] This belief may be in our subconscious and so hidden away were not even aware of it. But if it exists — and if you have a weight problem you can be sure it does — then it is affecting your behavior just as it has mine. Visualization is a very powerful tool for changing these negative ideas.

If you know that you had this negativity in your mind then practice visualizing yourself looking exactly the way you want to look, feeling exactly the way you want to feel, and being incredibly healthy. There is no point in attacking those negative ideas. In fact that will only reinforce them because we are putting energy into them. Instead, just continually focus on what you want and let your body handle the details.

For this to work, regular practice is an important necessity. Use any technique necessary to get this picture firmly in your mind including older pictures of yourself when you were slim, a magazine picture or someone else or visualizing yourself in great looking new clothing. As you go through your day of imagine yourself at your perfect weight and always think of this as being in the present time. Thinking "Someday I will be thin .." only keeps you where you are. Your best visualization is a new and perfect view of yourself. Weight loss by hypnosis is new in our culture — but not in the eastern culture — and it is here to stay. Take advantage of its power.

One of the key tools of hypnosis is to be able to reframe negative thoughts into a positive mind set easily.

I know that ‘reframing’ works for many people and it’s a great tool for them. It wasn’t helpful for me but that doesn’t mean others can’t gain great value from it.

Hypnosis is great for weight loss! Hypnosis works by changing the way your mind experiences information. So for weight loss hypnosis, you would receive information that you are comfortable around food, that you crave healthy food and healthy exercise. You can hypnotize yourself by getting into a very relaxed state where your mind goes into alpha waves and becomes highly suggestible. Then, visualize yourself eating healthy and exercising and being calm and relaxed around food. You can do this before you go to bed at night.

I used to meditate regularly and received great benefits from it. Weight loss hypnosis sounds to me to be another from of meditation. This article reminded me of a technique That has fallen by the wayside. I must reactivate it for much needed weight loss.

Our overeating is usually caused by stress and meditation is a way to reduce that stress. So it only makes sense that meditation helps us to calm down and eat less, therefore resulting in weight loss.

Visualisation is a fundamental part of hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis. As you begin to learn about yourself through your visualisation journey, you can can also learn to release your negative “drivers”. For example, many people overeat when they feel worthless. Visualise letting go of any criticism (self-criticism), as you think yourself thin.

Weight-loss hypnosis may help you shed an extra few pounds when it’s part of a weight-loss plan that includes diet, exercise and counseling.
