A white jewelry armoire may not be as common a sight as armoires of dark woods finished with deep varnishes, but is just as convenient, secure, and a beautiful addition to any jewelry owner’s bedroom. Either in traditional wood or in metal, keeping one’s jewelry and accessories in a jewelry armoire is slowly becoming a more popular choice.
The ‘Traditional’ Jewelry Box
Traditional jewelry boxes are often no bigger than a foot in length or half that in width and depth, and are often lined with soft, rich fabrics such as velvet. While jewelry boxes can no doubt also hold one’s jewelry, the risk of necklaces, bracelets, and watch straps tangling together is significant and dangerous, especially for jewelry boxes that consist of just a single compartment.
Some jewelry boxes contain trays and are divided into compartments, but as one’s jewelry collection grows, it is often found that a mere jewelry box can no longer hold all of the pieces in the jewelry and accessory collection. This is when jewelry armoires can step in and provide their own style of elegant solution to this problem.
The Jewelry Armoire
Jewelry armoires range in size from ones that could be placed on top of desks, just a bit larger and taller than jewelry boxes, to taller and larger ones that can stand on their own. Today’s choices are often multi-purpose like the Amazon best seller above that also includes a mirror.
All of the jewelry armoires I’ve ever seen include drawers. Just as in traditional jewelry boxes, these drawers are usually lined with velvet or some other soft fabric to help prevent damage to any jewelry that is going to be stored in them. Moreover, special storage features such as ring rolls for rings and screens or cushion for earrings are often included. For instance, in the example above, earrings hang on the back of the mirror drawer.
All jewelry armoires have ‘specialty’ sections for securing different types of jewelry. The one above has hooks for necklaces and bracelets and a special section for rings. Notice the smaller drawers at the bottom for the extra special items.
There are, of course, many differences depending on the one you choose, but the one above includes space for “48 necklace hooks, 2 cubbies, 6 lined shelves, and 1 bracelet rod. In addition, it can store up to 64 pairs of earrings and 91 rings”. That’s a honking lot of jewelry!
These compartments and drawers are certainly convenient in storing and organizing jewelry collections, but can they be secured? Of course! Jewelry armoires with locking drawers and compartments are available to add another measure of security for one’s most valuable and precious possessions.
So a wooden or metal, unpainted or white jewelry armoire can indeed be a wise investment. Not only will it provide more storage space, but also convenience and the possibility for implementing additional security measures. And, naturally, the beauty of these jewelry armoires that can truly liven up a bare bedroom.
