This past week I was reminded of how important it is to ALWAYS check our credit card bills. Reading over my VISA statement I saw a charge for $1.98 from someone I didn’t recognize. I went to the website listed and definitely did NOT recognize it and didn’t authorize such a charge.
You might be thinking, “What’s the big deal? It’s only $1.98 so who cares?” I cared and called my credit card company and talked to a fraud representative which might sound dumb:
#1: It truly IS a small amount …
#2: And sometimes we make a charge and it shows up as being from a company or name we don’t recognize …
But I know the way these crooks work. They often test a card with a very small amount, just to see what will happen. They count on us to not pay attention. And obviously that’s what was happening here because while I was talking with the fraud rep a charge came through for almost $300 from somebody named “Days”. NOPE. Not happening, losers.
I am awaiting a new card with a new account number so whoever got my info can write that card off because no charges will go through, and in fact the credit card company has it flagged to investigate whoever is using those numbers. Hope they catch the scumbags.
So remember my experience and read over your statements carefully. What a hassle it is if someone runs up huge charges on your cards and you have to straighten it out. You don’t want that experience.
