If you think cloves are a pleasant spice, useful around Christmas time, and forgotten the rest of the year, guess again because cloves have a lot of health benefits, too. The familiar cloves that we all know are actually the dried buds of evergreen trees native to Asia. Here are three powerful benefits.
#1: According to research done by India’s University College of Medical Sciences, cloves naturally detox the body. They help toxins and pollutants from your tissues and blood stream, activate immune fighter cells and help wipe out a slew of germs including E.coli, a particularly dangerous invader.
#2: Humans have used oil of cloves for centuries when they had a toothache and researchers have discovered that cloves are a natural anti-inflammatory so it makes sense to use them as a pain and infection fighter.
#3: Cloves also help stop platelets from clumping, reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Other Uses For The Clove
Cloves are supposedly a natural ant repellent and tens of thousands of school children have made pomander balls by inserting cloves into an orange. These were common gifts in Victorian (and earlier) England when our ancestors … let’s be truthful here … didn’t smell all that great. So the more ‘refined’ among them carried pomander balls and brought them to their delicate noses when the stenches of the people and streets became too, too, terrible.
