If you seek a healthy way to lose weight, the first place to begin is with your expectations. Ask yourself honestly: do you expect to success or do you expect to fail? Most of the time (every time?) when we "go on a diet", we worry that if we don’t do everything just exactly right, we are certain to fail. And after all, we’ve tried this a bazillion times in the past and failed – or we wouldn’t be on a new weight control program. So, why is this time going to be any different?
This kind of thinking is almost certainly a sure-fire way to fail again. Why is that, you ask? Because the more we concentrate on failure, the more certain we are to act in the destructive ways we’re worrying about. As Deepak Chopra wisely states: "where your thoughts go, you go." Let’s say that you fear that one wrong morsel will completely screw up your diet … what do is most likely to happen if you DO slip up and eat a food that is not on your plan? It’s very possible that you decide you’ve failed and give up. Most of us have subterranean fears of failure.
It takes dedication and determination to refuse to allow fear-based thinking to destroy our efforts to create a more radiant, healthy – and lean – body. Resolve to expect success in learning new and healthy habits – and indeed, everything you do in life. Learn to see so-called "mistakes" as nothing more than feedback, rather than disasters which destroy your very will to change.
Figure out what happened …
Concentrate on ways to prevent its recurrence …
Forget about it …
Strive to improve in all areas – not from an unrealistic expectation of perfection, but from a desire to do the very best you can in everything you do.
If you seek a healthy way to lose weight, then wake up in the morning expecting a successful weight loss day. Spend a few minutes every morning concentrating on your successes and your expansion of them during the day. If expecting failure brings failure, then expecting success will likewise bring success to your weight control programs.
