High blood pressure is really nasty. I should know because I had this problem when my Graves disease was rampaging through my body. So here are two inexpensive natural remedies that just might be a treatment for high blood pressure. Maybe. They're certainly worth a try because, after all, if we can eat/drink yummy stuff that's much better than medicine, right?
High Blood Pressure Treatment #1: Carob
Carob (pictured left) is often touted as a substitute for chocolate. There are authors that claim it tastes as good as chocolate. It doesn't. But it's not terrible, either.
I recently read about a study conducted by Plant Foods for Human Nutrition in 2010. Researchers claimed that carob lowered cholesterol levels, and especially the "bad" cholesterol, LDL. Carob, also known as 'locust bean gum' is high in both soluble and insoluble fiber. Carob also contains "polyphenols" which are antioxidants known to lower cholesterol.
Consider adding two Tablespoons a day of carob for a month or two and see what happens. It certainly will not harm you in any way and you can put it in smoothies, on cereal or anywhere else you would use chocolate.
High Blood Pressure Treatment #2: Hibiscus Tea
According to Tufts University, if you drink three cups of hibiscus flower tea each day for six weeks, your blood pressure just might drop by an amazing 13 points! There are substances in the plant that cause the arteries to relax, thus making it easier to pump the blood through your body. Drinking tea is a pleasant way to accomplish something so important. Consider iced tea with some stevia as a simple test that might lead to huge results.
The more plants we consume and the smaller the amount of drugs, the healthier our bodies will be so these two natural substances are definitely worth considering as a treatment for high blood pressure.
