The first reason to be interested in the Show and Go training system is that it was created by Eric Cressey. Let's begin with Eric's credentials: he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), received his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology and graduated from the University of New England with a double major in Exercise Science and Sports and Fitness Management.
Eric Cressey is president and co-founder of Cressey Performance, a facility near Boston, MA. He is a highly experienced coach who has helped athletes from youth sports to Olympic contenders, especially the more than four dozen players who train with him in the off-season.
He is an author of five books and 200+ published articles, along with four DVD sets that have been sold in over 50 countries around the world. Eric’s writing and his work with athletes have been featured in such publications as Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, ESPN, T-Muscle and countless more publications.
He is also a competitive weight lift with several state, national, and world records to his credit.
OK, I'm Impressed With Eric Cressey – So What's In His Program?
Show and Go is a 16-week, four phase training program whose goal that will help you attain the "fittest, most athletic, best looking body you've ever had" and achieve this more quickly than any other program. Meaning: less time spent working out. Who isn't in favor of less work?
Show & Go System Training Manual
This is the heart of the Show & Go system and teaches you everything you need to know to succeed. This includes every single workout that you need to do – and why; mobility drills; strength training; corrective exercises; and a fascinating addition: your workouts include soft tissue and foam rolling exercises.
If you're not familiar with foam rolling, it's an interesting technique for massaging sore muscles with your own weight. Called "poor man's massage", you need a round piece of foam that is 36" long, which is available in most gyms and exercise clubs. The inventor, Mike Clarke, created the foam tool as a form of acupressure which would massage trigger points and sore spots in the body. Now, foaming is more of a self-massage treatment and athletes are instructed to apply long strokes to major muscle groups like calves, hips and quadriceps. Simply search out tender areas and use your own body weight to roll them out.
And there's even more … for example, how many days per week do you want to exercise? Eric provides a program for twice per week, three times per week or four times per week. No more complaints about scheduling problems!
Show & Go System Video Database
This incredible video database includes 175 videos, covering every possible nuance of exercise and fitness. Since Cressey created this database, you will never have to worry about the exact "how to" of any exercise ever again.
Fanatical bodybuilders are impressed with Eric because although he weighs under 200 pounds, he can bench press 365 pounds and deadlift 600+ pounds! With results like this, there's no doubt that this man knows what he is talking about!
Show and Go Training Templates
Are you concerned that you might have to rely on memory at your exercise club when trying to use the Show and Go exercises? The Show and Go training templates will take care of that problem because you can simply print them out and carry them with you wherever you go, making it easy to always stay on task.
More good news: if you forget your printouts, grab your Blackberry or iPhone and get technique refreshers right in the gym.
Show and Go Metabolic Conditioning
We all know that if our metabolism is limping along like a turtle on a cross-country journey, the chances of losing fat and being a lean machine are very small. Eric has five custom designed metabolic training programs that will cause your metabolism to explode like a nuclear furnace!
Show and Go Exercise Modification
Some exercise and fitness programs limit their usefulness because you can only carry them out by joining a gym or exercise facility because the exercises require expensive equipment and all you have at home is a set of dumbbells.
Then our choice becomes joining an expensive facility – or forgetting the whole thing. Most of us opt for choice number two. However, with the Show and Go program this isn't a problem because Eric Cressey has an entire section devoted to exercise modification. This means you can figure out a way to adapt the exercises to whatever equipment is available to you.
Is all of this wasn't enough to excite anyone truly interested in fitness, Cressey puts the icing on the cake by adding some incredible bonuses. Three of these choice programs are created by fitness experts who are quite famous in their own right.
Bonus #1: Five Fantastic Finishers
Tony Gentilcore is the cofounder, with Eric, of the Cressey Performance facility and is a contributor to Men's Health magazine. His contribution is five "finishers" to complete your exercise sessions and are designed specifically to melt away that nasty fat and speed up your progress.
Bonus #2: Innovative Soft Tissue Strategies For Health and Performance
There's no doubt that when we exercise strenuously we're going to have some stiff, sore muscles from time to time. The ultimate answer is a massage, of course, but second best is a guide from Licensed Massage Therapist Christopher Howard, someone who knows how to alleviate that pain.
Bonus #3: Top 5 Glute Exercises
The gluteal muscles define the strength, speed, appearance and conditioning of the buttocks area. Strength and conditioning guru Brett Contreras offers his top five glute exercises.
Bonus #4: Quick Video Reference Guide
And if the sheer volume of 175 videos overwhelms you, you'll be relieved to know that there is a Quick Video Reference Guide so that you can quickly and easily locate any video you want to use.
Bonus #5: 2x Week Show and Go Training Template
Eric Cressey claims to have eliminated any of those pesky excuses that stand between you and an awesome body. How? By offering these training templates which teach custom programs that will fit ANY schedule or circumstance.
What We Like About Show and Go
1. Obviously, this man is an authority who understands what it takes to be in supreme physical shape. There is no use in learning from a guy who is 40 pounds overweight and spends his day squatting behind a desk. When learning anything, always look for a teacher who 'talks the talk and walks the walk'. No theory here. He's a guy we can trust.
2. There is a strong focus on performance. You need to know where you're starting and you need achievable and realistic goals along the way that can be measured. Performance testing is where the Show and Go system begins.
3. Have you ever tried to perform an exercise correctly but you weren't sure exactly how? Should your arms be above or below your shoulders? How high should you raise your legs?
One of the strengths of Show and Go is the completeness of the information and explanation. It's much easier to do an exercise correctly if you understand why you're doing the selected activity and Eric Cressey is a totally thorough teacher and instructor.
4. There is extensive training on exercise modifications. If part of your regimen is to do 30 chin-ups — but you can't do a single one – what are you supposed to do? Most people give up at that point but if you can't do a chin up, Cressey will offer an alternative.
5. If you have ever made a video, you will know how time-consuming, and even excruciating, the process can be. The stunning number of videos in this series not only makes it almost foolproof but it eliminates wasted time spent doing exercises incorrectly.
What You Might Not Like About Show and Go
If a big part of your fitness plan involves dieting and nutrition you will probably be disappointed with Show and Go. Eric Cressey knows that if you exercise in certain ways the fat WILL come off and he relies on physical activity to create a clean and healthy body. Although there is some instruction on this subject, it isn't the focus of the program and large amounts of information on food and what to eat isn't included.
If you have passion and determination for increasing your level of fitness to an entirely new level, Show and Go is superb for accomplishing your goal. Of course, just watching the videos and absorbing Eric Cressy's knowledge will change nothing because you must supply the determination to take action. On the other hand, simply exercising without a plan will not get you where you want to go. Show and Go is that professional and accomplished plan.
