Gratitude Training: A 30 Day Experiment In Gratitude Exercises, Day 2

Written by Sydney Johnston Leave a Comment

On Day 2 of my gratitude training experiment, I’m investing energy into Thank and Grow Rich’s party game #6. Which says, “… whatever you’re doing, deem it fun. Find the joy in it.” Quite a challenge, isn’t it? It’s like the gratitude quote below: bless “everything”? Really? Isn’t that impossible?

Today’s Gratitudes

Blessing 1: I truly accepted the challenge above. So, how does it work when doing something mundane and less-than-fun like rinsing dishes and putting them in the dishwasher? Pam refers to “ferocious” gratitude and I accept the challenge by figuring out ways to be grateful for everything. So about the dishes:

  • I enjoy the warm water running over my hands and fingers …
  • There is satisfaction in cleaning up a “mess” by getting the dishes relatively clean and putting them out of sight in the dishwasher …
  • I like my counter tops being wiped clean of crumbs and drips …
  • My dishwasher has been reliable for many years and still works well. Thank you dishwasher …
  • We are so blessed in America to have running water whenever we want it. Many people on this planet are not so fortunate …

That’s really a lot of blessing when you think about it. And if I spent more time on this, I’m sure I could come up with lots more reasons.

Blessing 2: I’ve been sitting outside in the sunshine in the afternoon, reading for a half hour or so. And I became aware of this delicious fragrance and it’s honeysuckle, pictured on the right. Not a very pretty plant IMO, but it definitely teases the nose with delicious smells. So many of our flowers are hybrids today and they have no scent at all, but honeysuckle is wild and uncultivated and therefore is delicious. Thank you, honeysuckle.

Blessing 3: when I went to get my Dr. Pepper this morning (see Day 1) I started thinking about my car. It’s really wonderful. I named her Matilda and she’s a silver Honda CRV. Honda has the BEST paint colors around. My paint has specks of metallic silver in it and it’s brilliant in the sunlight and really glows even in the shade. The interior is gray leather and has a wonderful sunroof. I keep my car really clean and it’s a pleasure to ride in. And it’s RELIABLE! That, of course, is the #1 criteria. Thank you, Matilda.
