Yesterday was my first full day of my detox cleanse and it wasn’t bad at all. Obviously, it’s too early to have any report on results. But first, here’s an important question you need to answer before even considering a cleansing diet for yourself …
Is A Detox Cleanse A Good Idea, A Fad Or A Scam?
I recently read a forum comment in which the poster self-righteously proclaimed that ‘Dr. Weil says that there is no reason to detox’ our liver or any other body organ. There were multiple posts discussing the ‘how to’ of a detox cleanse but she seemed to believe that her comment was the final word on the subject and that the rest of the posters were delusional.
I don’t argue with people.
Ever.
Having said that, I’d like to offer my thoughts on this subject – and feel perfectly free to consider me delusional, if you wish. I don’t mind.
First of all, I have no idea what Dr. Weil actually said. Perhaps she is right and he believes that detox diets are waste of time and effort. Or perhaps she misunderstood his comments or took them out of context.
Even if Dr. Weil is opposed to a body detox that doesn’t mean he’s correct. There are many medical professionals and researchers who enthusiastically endorse any effort to clean the toxins from our bodies.
But the really important question that each one of us must answer is this: who do we trust?
If you’ve had any experience with researching health methods you have probably experienced the frustration of conflicting advice. The other day I had three books are open on my kitchen table to show my son. They were all written by doctors who are considered “authorities and experts” in their field — and their advice was not just different but, if present, they would have engaged in an enthusiastic argument with each other.
So who do we trust? To me there is only one reliable source of information and that is our own bodies! There is no one who knows your body as well as you do. The medical profession and research from books and the Internet can be very valuable as guidelines. But ultimately the responsibility for your health belongs 100% to YOU.
I take full responsibility for my own health and, therefore, instead of relying on the opinions of others I am testing a detox cleanse for two weeks. I’m taking careful notes and paying attention to how I feel and at the end of that time I will decide whether to proceed with what I’m doing. Or not.
Having said that, let’s take a look at what I had to eat yesterday. I did take all my supplements, drink my water and swallow the fiber. Not too much enthusiasm for the fiber but at least it’s over quickly.
My Menu From Day 1 of My Liver Detox
Breakfast: salad with organic lettuce, green onion, white beans that I cooked myself (no canned), green olives, carrots, bulgar, organic tomatoes from my yard, organic parsley from my yard, artichokes and cauliflower pieces.
For a dressing I used a bit of organic olive oil, some freshly squeezed lime and sea salt.
Lunch: I made live, raw juice in my trusty Greenstar juicer. My juice contained celery, carrot, cabbage, lemon, an apple and more parsley from my yard.
I had a small serving of whole grain pasta with olives, artichokes, organic pasta sauce and sea salt.
Dinner: I fixed a bowl of fruit that contained fresh blueberries, a banana and defrosted cherries. I covered this with no-fat yogurt that included some stevia and vanilla flavoring and topped it with some LSA.
LSA is a recipe included in the The Liver Cleansing Diet as a potent fiber and source of EFAs (essential fatty acids). It includes Linseeds, Sunflower seeds and Almonds.
I also toasted an Ezekiel sprouted grain tortilla and ate it with some organic salsa. I really love these Ezekiel products – they’re sprouted grains without flour and quite healthy. They’re not the cheapest food in the world – I could buy a lot more tortillas for the same price but nothing that is healthy like the Ezekiel.
Still, this was a mistake because I was too full. Next time I will let my fruit (or whatever) ‘settle’ a bit before eating more.
DAILY SUMMARY: the food is good, I’ve had zero hunger pangs and this is quite easy. So far, so good on my detox cleanse
