The princess and the pea is a classic fairy tale and this cross stitch pattern comes from famed artist Edmund Dulac. The story is rather hard to believe - that the princess was soooooo delicate that a tiny pea beneath a multitude of mattresses kept her awake all night and she was black and blue the next day. That kind of sensitivity would be a curse, not a blessing, but it is a magical story after all.
