It is hard to tell the main cause of a yeast infection. The facts are that yeast normally exists on the outer layer of the skin and in the intestines, but in most cases it is kept in check by the human immunological system. That’s why most of the time the underlying cause of yeast infestation is a weakened immunological system. However, this is by no means the only reasons of candidiasis.
1. Antibiotics
One of the most common causes of a yeast infection is using antibiotics. Despite all positive effects they have, they seriously weaken the immune system, making it easier for yeast to overgrow and infect normally yeast-free areas such as the mouth and vagina.
2. Chemicals
Namely perfumes, inks and dyes – in short, everything that can change the balance of your skin environment. They often kill the skin’s bacterial flora, destroying natural defense mechanisms of your skin, especially in the vaginal area. They are thought to be the main cause of yeast infections of the skin.
3. Diet
While diet have little to do with reducing the chances of infection and it is not a cause of yeast infection, it has a great impact on the severity of your infection, especially in case of thrush. Reducing the amount of sugar intake may speed the recovery rate by as much as 200%.
4. Sexual Transmission
An important cause of yeast infection is transmitting a yeast infection during a sexual intercourse. While it does not form a serious threat in case of a “fully-charged” immunological system, sexual intercourse is a common way of re-infection, especially if both partners have not been treated at the same time.
