If you are finding losing weight difficult or are stuck you may be sabotaging your weight loss efforts without realizing it and that's why you can't lose weight. This is likely to come as a shock to you- losing weight is very important to you so why on earth would you want to ruin your hard work? There are several ways in which you may be sabotaging your diet without necessarily being aware of it.
* Skipping breakfast in an effort to save calories
Studies have recently shown that people who miss breakfast are more likely to be obese than breakfast eaters. One reason for this could be that not eating breakfast can cause someone to become much hungrier mid morning. As they have not eaten for several hours, they are more likely to choose foods that are high in fat or sugar to give them the energy they are lacking. Another reason could be that the metabolic rate naturally slows during the night when the body is at rest, and eating breakfast gives it a kick start so that it burns calories more efficiently.
* Making poor food choices
Certain foods may sound as though they are healthy but the reality may be different. For example, you might decide to order a salad when eating out as you figure that it is a healthier option. However, quite often extras such as creamy dressings, cheese, nuts and croutons are added to salads, and the calorie and fat content can add up to more than the amounts contained in an average burger! Always check the menu when eating out, and ask how the food is prepared. Don’t be afraid to ask them to leave off unhealthy extras.
* Not counting alcohol calories & effects
You figure that you deserve a small drink; after all you have had a really busy day. You don’t bother counting it because after all one little drink can’t contain that many calories, can it? Some alcohol can be surprisingly high in calories and it can be all too easy to lose track of how many you have had, especially if you are out on the town.
Drinking at home can also be a way of sabotaging your diet. Your healthy eating plan allows you to have a measure of spirits, however the amount you pour yourself actually equates to around three measures but you kid yourself you are having just one! If you fancy a drink, be honest with yourself and measure it properly.
* Weekend binges
You think that because you have been sticking to your diet all week you can relax a little at weekends. However, you end up eating and drinking far more than you should Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. By all means have a little treat at the weekend, but stop there or else you are actually sabotaging your diet for nearly half the week!
If you've been wondering why you can't lose weight, perhaps you may have now realized that you may be sabotaging your weight loss efforts. You are now in an ideal position to stop and get your weight loss back on track.
