The road to The Kingdom of Thinness does not always run smoothly. Sometimes progress can slow down or even stop completely for what appears to be no reason. If your efforts to lose weight are faltering, chances are you may be making the following diet mistakes.
Skipping Meals In An Effort To Save Calories
The most common meal people are tempted to skip is breakfast, but this is a big mistake, as eating breakfast gives the metabolism a kick start after it has been dormant during the night. Boosting your metabolism will help it to become more efficient at processing the food you eat, meaning that less will be stored as fat.
Also, when you skip a meal you tend to eat more later on to compensate. Meal skippers tend to pick foods to snack on that are higher in fat and calories than those who eat regular meals throughout the day.
Not Counting Portion Sizes
If you have been dieting for a while, it can be tempting to stop measuring out your portion sizes as you reckon that you can now judge these pretty accurately. However, it’s all too easy to start adding a little more food here and there and before you know it your meal may be twice as large as it should be. If your weight loss has slowed down, try going back to basics and measuring out those portion sizes properly.
Eating the Same Foods Everyday
Some people are tempted to stick to the same food all the time when on a diet, as they think this makes things easier. However, if you do this you are likely to become bored of your diet very soon and will be tempted to break this monotonous routine by eating something high in calories. You might also be running the risk of becoming deficient in certain vitamins or minerals. Experiment with different recipes and don’t be afraid to add foods you haven’t tried before. The more varied and interesting your diet is, the more motivated you will be to stick to it.
Not Counting Your Drinks
If you stick to black tea or coffee, water and sugar free drinks you don’t have to worry about counting these, but it’s too easy to become a little complacent and ‘forgetting’ that sugary drink, or the milky latte you had went you went to the store. The calories will still add up though, whether you count them or not! A common mistake people make is to either not count alcoholic drinks or to measure out a more generous portion than their diet plan allows. Alcohol can be high in calories, and it is very easy to drink a few hundred extra calories worth in a relatively short space of time.
If your weight loss has stalled and you don’t know why, take a careful look at your eating habits to make sure you are not making any of these common diet mistakes.
