If you like luxury – not to mention being comfortable while you sleep away 1/3 of your life – then cotton sheets are definitely the way to go. Want some reasons? Here are a quick four:
1. Cotton bed sheets are softer than blends
2. Cotton sheets are the most “breathable” meaning they allow air to circulate more freely around your body
3. Cotton becomes softer and more comfortable after every use and wash
4. Cotton will not pill as easily as blended fabric
Choosing Your Cotton Sheets
Kinds of cotton bed sheet fibers
There are three kinds of cotton fiber used in cotton bed sheets:
1. Egyptian (considered the finest)
2. Pima
3. American Upland
Thread count
Another important consideration is the thread count. Generally the higher the thread count the softer and more durable the fabric becomes. Cotton bed sheets having lower than 200 threads per inch are not recommended for daily use.
What size sheet do you need?
In case you’re not sure what size your mattress is or if it is a customized one, better measure your mattress before buying. Remember that the pillow tops and other accessories lying on your mattress can make it larger and/or wider. You may need a larger cotton bed sheet than the standard size, such as a California King, instead of the standard King.
Themes and colors
Bed sheets are the most visible part of your bed which is why you should choose carefully not only the kind of cotton of which is made your bed sheet, but also the color and design. You can find designs fitting every style, from ethnic ones to the romantic satin sheets in almost every color in the world.
The shade of your cotton bed sheet should be darker than the wall paint color but still in the same color family.
