When it comes to skin care, you should know that there is much more to it than just putting stuff on your face. Now, I’m not saying that you should totally ditch your beauty routine but remember that looking young should also begin from within … I’m referring to your diet. They say you are what you eat, in this case, you are as old or as young as what you put in your mouth anyway. So here are 5 great antioxidant, aka anti aging, super foods that you should definitely add to your daily meals.
Beans
Some may call it the “musical fruit”, but we like to think of it as the turning back the clock kind of food. Did you know that beans and legumes actually have the one of the highest ORAC ratings? OR-what?
Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, which pretty much means it’s antioxidant capacity- and yes, that is a very good thing, a very, very good thing indeed.
Black beans, red beans, kidney beans- the list goes on and on. It is pretty easy to integrate them into your diet- add them to a salad or maybe make some chili. But a good tip would be to soak your beans overnight before you cook them the next day.
Berries
Now this is definitely a sweet treat- blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and so on. Berries are, without a doubt, a great source of antioxidants as well – proanthocyanidins to be exact. Much more than it’s anti aging properties, this specific antioxidant has actually been proven to greatly decrease the risk of cancer and prevent heart disease as well.
Add some to your morning cereal, mix them with your yogurt, make a smoothie, or even just eat them as is.
Nuts
Go ahead and go nuts over nuts. Along with being jam packed with antioxidants, nut provide a myriad of other health benefits as well. They are also rich in fiber, fats – the good healthy kind, and protein too.
They are good for your digestion, they lower your cholesterol levels, and are definitely good for your heart.
Almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios and walnuts definitely top the list.
Spices
More than just adding flavor to your food, the right ones can actually add years to your life while taking them off your face at the same time. It’s like sprinkling on antioxidants along with tons of other health benefits depending on which spice or herb you have.
For instance, oregano is along with it being a rich source of antioxidants, also has anti bacterial properties, is full of fiber, and is a rich source of Vitamin K? Tumeric, on the other hand, has been proven slow down the growth of cancer cell, prevent Alzheimer’s, and even relieves arthritis.
Dark Chocolate
Come to the dark side. If you thought that the berries were a sweet treat, think again. Dark chocolate is full of flavanoids, yet another great antioxidant that battles off degenerative diseases. So basically, aside from helping you get that youthful glow, dark chocolate can help prevent heart disease, asthma, cancer, and ironically, diabetes too. How sweet is that?
