Give Your Old Kitchen Items A New Lease on Life

Written by Margaret Acklin 6 Comments

This is an especially fun article since it beautifully illustrates the creativity of the human race. Jessica has some great examples of reused kitchen items that get a second life. Perhaps we should think before we throw away our ketchup bottles?

Even the most useful of household items can reach a point when they’re no longer needed. Old brooms get ratty, utensils often rust and some things just simply stop working. Instead of banishing well-used items to the curb, give them a second chance by repurposing them for a new use.

Pendant Bowl Lights

Most of us have more bowls around the kitchen than we know what to do with. Instead of allowing them to take up valuable storage space, use them to add a little extra light to your kitchen or any other room of your home by creating a hanging light. These ultra modern designs use stainless bowls but really, any tempered glass will do the trick. Metal strainers are actually even better because they already contain holes to let the light escape.

Repurpose your old bowls by turning them into ultra modern pendant lights

Mosaic Toaster Art

Toasters are one of those kitchen appliances that seem like they last forever. Eventually though, most of them reach a point where they burn your bread or become nothing but an eyesore. Instead of tossing it in the bin, create a mosaic toaster using broken pieces of glass, tile, rocks, beads or whatever you might have on hand. Although a bit more time consuming than some of our other ideas, this beautiful toaster can be used as a piece of art, a napkin holder or as a unique garden decoration that’s sure to catch the eye.

Baking Tin Organizer

Although baking tins can withstand a ton of use, if you’re looking to get a new one but don’t want to waste the one you have, consider using your existing one to organize your supplies. Muffin tins makes great organizers for sewing, office or hair supplies and can easily slide into a drawer or below a dresser.

Spools of thread, hair elastics, paperclips and more can be neatly organized in this quaint little muffin tin.

Ketchup Bottle Pancakes

A staple in most homes, Heinz Ketchup bottles have a great second use that most people probably aren’t familiar with. Instead of using a ladle to create the perfect pancake, mix your batter in an empty ketchup bottle to squeeze out flawless circles every time.

Filled with batter, old ketchup bottles
create perfect little (or big!) pancakes.

Very nice thought of yours. It seem that we should not throw our old kitchen items as per your post we can use them in decorating our homes and also can use them in other kitchen works. Thank you for such nice points
