Living in the age of technology has it benefits. It is actually the age of convenience with most things that you would want only a few clicks of the mouse away. If you were going to tell people as little as 25 years ago that computers would be used for everything from grocery shopping to buying engagement rings, nobody would take you seriously.
There are a number of benefits to shopping online. I’m sure you can come up with a few without giving it much thought. Many of them are on display now as the holiday season begins. Here are a few of the biggest pros to online shopping:
Got Gifts?: For many people Thanksgiving is like the starting gun shot for the race to get holiday shopping done. Following that day, stores change up their music playlists to blast Christmas carols and spread holiday cheer (to get you in the mood to spend some money). Stores extend their hours to welcome shoppers in all throughout the day and late into the night. Lines are longer than normal and the hottest items are almost guaranteed to be sold out.
The benefit of online shopping is that most of the sales are available online also. In fact, some stores create sales specifically for customers who make purchases from the online site. It seems like a way of thanking them for not coming into the store and adding to the chaos. Another benefit of shopping online is the ease of delivering gifts. You can pay for it and have it sent directly to whoever you purchased it for, sometimes they’ll even wrap it.
Best of all, it saves you a trip to the post office and back strain from carrying around too-heavy packages
Extended Selection: Another benefit to online shopping is the extended selection of items. At a brick and mortar location there is only so much space to store items. In the online world, you can choose from a wide array of products and get them shipped from and to different locations. There are also some pretty cool options available to customize products that can’t always be done in stores. For example, Nike offers a number of sneakers that you can customize a number of ways from changing the colors to fit your style to having your nick-name or initials embodied on the tongue.
Simple Shopping: It all comes down to the convenience in the end. You can complete all of your holiday shopping without getting out of bed. Online shopping has been changed to cater to the consumer. iPad users can make purchases through the device and iPhone users can make purchases online through their phone. Shopping has definitely evolved and who knows, maybe in 25 years actually going to stores to make holiday purchases will be a thing of the past.

There are advantages and disadvantages to shopping online. I think it has hurt many brick and mortar stores in my area.

Yes, that’s true but it’s also true that physical stores can have a website as well.
