Since you’re reading this article, the chances are that you’re interested in losing weight. In our culture the two "mainstays" of weight loss are diet and exercise. If you’re too busy [or too tired] to get to a gym or if the cost is too high, then you might want to exercise at home. If so you’re most likely wondering which are the best work out videos or the best work out DVDs?
Workout videos can be a great plus whatever were trying to lose weight. Bbut they’re not all alike and if you don’t want to waste your money in your time you need to decide what’s best for you before you invest a single penny.
The first, and most important question naturally, is what kind of exercise do you want to do? Do you want a bounce to the singles with Richard Simmons, or do Tae Bo with Billy, or do stretching with Kathy Smith? If just the thought of doing anything with those videos makes you feel ill then don’t be in a rush to buy anything.
Secondly, the level of difficulty is very important. I know that I have used workout videos and DVDs and gotten so frustrated that I simply quit. The instructor would spend a few seconds explaining the move and then just go right on exercising with his advanced students who looked so fabulous I couldn’t even relate to them. On the other hand, going over the instructions time after time once I understood what was necessary, became equally boring.
Some of these videos are very elementary and some of them are very advanced. Personally, I always tend to overestimate my capabilities. I think that I can do more than I can and have often gotten carried away. The other day for example, I saw a program that supposed to make us did very fit. It started with … started … with three sets of 10 push-ups each! What a joke. I can’t do two push-ups, much less 30. Needless to say I didn’t buy that one.
Cost is another consideration. Some workout videos and DVDs are quite reasonably priced, whereas others are very expensive. When Billy Blanks was at the top of the hit parade, his Tae Bo tapes were quite expensive. [I bought them because it looked like they were having so much fun but I didn’t stick with it – the story of my life, alas.]
I personally use the Body Bot software program. What persuaded me to give it a try was the notion that even 20 seconds can have an effect on my body. And he’s absolutely right — it does. 20 seconds is a much easier commitment to swallow than 30 push-ups.
I can do these exercises throughout the day which is a big plus for me. I sit at a computer all day and often get stiff and find myself hurting if I don’t pay attention. I get engrossed in what I’m doing and ignore my body — a really bad habit. With these 20 seconds breaks I can ease that stress and tension without making a giant commitment right in the middle of work.
So, the best exercise videos and the best DVDs for you are simply the ones you actually will do. You might want to try Body Bot.
