Brent, our guest author today, has written an extremely cool article about attitude and I agree with every word he says. Most people think that we have no control over our beliefs and feelings but that’s just not so. As Abraham Hicks says, “Nothing is more important than feeling good.”
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Attitude is everything.” Nothing more could ever be true. Attitude IS everything. The way we view and feel about our life will be reflected to us through our experiences. When you think good thoughts and have truly positive feelings towards something, that something will be a rewarding experience for you.
To illustrate this critical, yet simple, concept, think about something that you’re absolutely good at. It could be a skill you have, a physical feature, a friendship, a meal you can cook, a sport you play, etc. Whatever one thing you are best at, bring that to mind. What do you think about that good thing/quality you have? How does it truly make you feel? Now, I’m not a psychic, but I guarantee you that I know the answer to those questions: you direct good thoughts and good feelings toward that skill/ability.
Think about that. For centuries, the majority of mankind has gotten this simple concept backwards. We have believed that our surrounding circumstances are creating our thoughts and feelings. In doing so, we have this bad view of life, in which we think we have no say in anything. This is simply not true!
“What we are is God’s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.”
Eleanor Powell
Our attitude towards everything is creating future experiences for us. We must check our thoughts and our feelings and ensure that they are positive, so that we may build up good experiences in life.
Now, on the other hand, if you bring to mind something that you are not good at, what kind of thoughts and feelings come to mind? I’ll bet they’re negative ones.
Let’s take, for example, someone who ‘thinks’ they have a weight problem. What is really going on there? Are they overweight because their circumstances made them overweight? Are they overweight because other people made them overweight? And, to take this one step further, are they overweight because the food they ate? The answer to all of those questions is, without a doubt, no. To explain where I’m coming from, consider what Jesus said:
“It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.”
Matthew 15:11
“But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you.”
Matthew 15:17-18
You see, your outside circumstances do not create the world you live in. It is your inner state, your attitude, that creates your life. If you can change your views and your feelings to something positive, you can change your entire life.
But how can you do that? Well, you have to start by feeling good. It’s something that has to be made the number one priority in your life. This is the only way.
One helpful thing you can do, is to be more thankful. Giving sincere thanks for the good things in your life is an incredibly powerful feeling that can only come from having a positive attitude. So, start being thankful for everything. Be thankful for your home, your family, the trees outside, your body, your work, each breath you take, etc. This kind of attitude towards life will create much more rewarding experiences down the road.
Another thing you can do, which is equally as powerful, is to show yourself more love. If you cannot love yourself, then you cannot love life. And, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t love yourself! What you see in the mirror is not a reflection of yourself; it’s a reflection of what you have created. You are that ability to create! If you don’t like what you see, then you must change it to something you do like to see. And trust me, you have that ability.
“Your mental attitude is something you can control outright and you must use self-discipline until you create a Positive Mental Attitude – your mental attitude attracts to you everything that makes you what you are.”
Napoleon Hill
If you can change your attitude and shift yourself into a more positive state of mind, you can live a much more successful and satisfying life. Whatever you do and whatever you experience here in life, will be a direct reflection of your inner state. If it isn’t working for you… change it.
