The Myths Of Spot Reduction, Starvation Diets & Cardio Programs

Written by Sydney Johnston Leave a Comment

If you have read through health magazines routinely, you have definitely seen many tips for weight loss. Many of these so-called tips are misinformation, wishful thinking or promotion, like the value of spot reduction, starvation diets and cardio programs as weight loss miracle.

Tips that won’t work are the ones that offer fad diet, pills and weight loss supplements. Tips that really work for people are usually quite simple: that of exercising and diet. Although, the weight loss world is filled with false information and myths, so people are usually prone to distort the truth, either for their own benefit or from blatant unawareness. This article will explain three major weight loss myths.

The Myth Of Spot Reduction

Myth #1 – Spot reduction of fat can be done: This is not true, and I am quite certain that any weight loss specialist would tell you the same thing. It is impossible to force the body to spot reduce fat in any way, irregardless of what kind of workouts you engage in. If you only do leg lifts and crunches often with the hope of eliminating stomach fat, you will recognize that, rather than eliminating fat, you lower the muscle mass under the abdomen. Therefore, your concentration needs not be exclusively on leg lifts and crunches only; you need to stick with a healthy diet that enhances your metabolic rate and allows you to burn fat quickly!

Starvation Diets Are A Great Way To Lose Weight – Not!

Myth #2 – A major decrease of calorie intake lowers your body fat: This myth has forced many people to dance on the brink of crash dieting. People start crash dieting with the anticipation that this will help them lose weight, without recognizing that it actually hurts the body as opposed to helping it. In fact, whenever you fast or starve yourself, the body figures out that you are trying to kill it off and shifts into starvation mode. While being in starvation mode, the body decreases the metabolic rate and burns away at muscle as opposed to burning fat, which is stored, for emitting energy. In this way, you never lose any fat; if anything, you just lose your precious muscle mass. As soon as you go back to your regular diet, you just get back the extra weight!

Enough Cardio Exercise Will Result In A Super Model Body

Myth #3 – Cardiovascular exercise itself can assist you in weight loss: Even though doing cardio exercises could help you lose fat, it isn’t the only kind of weight loss workout you can do; keep aerobics in mind, though. In truth, the quantity of fat you eliminate doing either aerobics or cardio is basically going to be identical. However, weight lifting is healthier than aerobics and cardio altogether, in that it helps you with both burning the fat during your workout as well as afterward!

If you want to reject our rejection :-) of these lousy tips for weight loss – thumbs down on spot reduction, starvation diets and cardio programs that will cause fat to melt away like snow in a summer sun – then try them out for yourself. Oh, and please get back to use to let us know how that’s working out for you.
